Xbox 360, PS3, iPad... Smack! I'm the President! |

At his commencement speech this weekend at Hampton University, President Obama took a moment from inspiring a generation to lay the presidential smack down on video games, iPad, iPods and other technological "distractions" of the current day society.
"With iPods and iPads; Xbox 360s and PlayStations -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," Obama said. "All of this is not only putting new pressures on you. It is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy," he added.
Obama also mentioned that an education can help people make better sense of the different viewpoints and voices "clamoring for attention on blogs, on cable, on talk radio."

A Commentary on Zombies: The So-Fast Undead |

The Pegg-Induced Paradigm Shift:
I recently ran across an article by Simon Pegg (seen here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/nov/04/television-simon-pegg-dead-set) that has all-but changed my somewhat progressive views on the zombie figure in today's mainstream media outlets. Since 2004's remake of Dawn of the Dead by then prominent music-video director Zack Snyder, the fast zombie has been the latest and greatest rage within the genre. Pegg counters this with the simple theme that zombies should not run for one simple reason:
They are dead. And as a manifestation of the id-latent fear of death, they cannot and should not run.
